S7HD Head Start Registration and Back to School Vaccinations Underway

/ WMOK

Southern Seven Health Department is currently enrolling in our region for their Fall Session.  Children aged 6 weeks to five years can be enrolled in Head Start.

Children can be enrolled in whichever county is most convenient to the family.  For example if a family lives in Johnson County but parents work in Massac – the child can be enrolled in Massac.

Shawnna told WMOK that the Head Start program not only gets children ready for Kindergarten but get’s children on a head start regarding health and wellness.

As time for back to school vaccines approaches Shawnna reiterates that it is important to get in touch with one’s doctor or with the Southern Seven Health department to make sure that vaccinations are up to date and given at the proper age.  Shawnna told WMOK that over the last year they saw the number of school age vaccines drop by about 12% compared to the previous year.

Shawnna said that although we don’t often hear about diseases such as measles, rubella, mumps and chicken pox doesn’t mean that those diseases have gone away and it does remain important for children to receive these vaccinations.
