WMOK spoke with Sharity Gaddis from Southern Seven Head Start about Head Start registration taking place now for the 2021/2022 school year.
Sharity told WMOK that they are currently in the middle of the 2021/2022 school year recruitment period. Southern Seven is acting applications for child to learn remotely and in class. There are several openings for both age groups.
Children ages 0-3 will be registered for the Early Head Start program. Children ages 3-5 will get enrolled in the traditional Head Start program. School days for Head Start are Monday through Friday, from 8 AM until 2:30 PM.
The Head Start program promotes school readiness for children and helps them with their social/emotional development as well as their cognitive development. All children enrolled in the program will be offered many screenings (ex. hearing/vision) throughout the school year.
To register parents are asked to bring in proof of income (ex. W2, tax paper) and birth verification. The child must also have an up to date physical and vaccinations. Head start interviews are being held in person or if more comfortable over the phone.
