A dramatic high-speed chase unfolded as officers from Metropolis and Massac County pursued a pickup truck that recklessly evaded law enforcement. The incident began when a Brookport Officer called for assistance, prompting Metropolis law enforcement to respond with lights and sirens activated.
As officers approached the I-24 ramp to US 45, a pickup truck unexpectedly pulled in front of a Metropolis Sergeant’s vehicle. Initially appearing to yield, the truck suddenly accelerated, cutting off the squad and reaching speeds over 105 mph in rainy conditions. Witnesses reported that the truck lost control, veering off the roadway and into oncoming traffic before continuing towards Brookport.
While officers maintained pursuit, the situation escalated until the driver ultimately crashed the vehicle in Brookport.
A 17-year-old male was taken into custody following the crash and has since been charged with multiple offenses, including Reckless Driving, Failure to Yield to an Authorized Emergency Vehicle, and Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding. The teen was released to his mother on a notice to appear in court.
