Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer found multiple occupants inside. The driver, identified as Richard A. Ward of Vienna, IL, exited the car but refused to comply with commands to return. In an attempt to evade capture, Ward fled the scene on foot, leading to a brief chase that concluded a few blocks away with his arrest.

Ward was found to have outstanding warrants issued by Pope County, IL, related to multiple charges including failure to appear for burglary, conspiracy to commit vehicle theft, criminal trespass to property, and unlawful possession of stolen property. He was also wanted by Union County, IL, for burglary.

Additionally, a search of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia, including a meth pipe belonging to Ward. One of the passengers, 60-year-old Douglas G. Trovillion from Chicago, was also found in possession of a meth pipe as well as a bottle of Xanax without a valid prescription. Trovillion is now facing charges for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Both men were taken into custody and are currently held at the Massac County Detention Center. Ward has been charged with the outstanding warrants, improper parking on the roadway, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.
