Give-Back at the Pump: Massac Memorial Hospital Auxiliary

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – In March, local residents have a unique opportunity to support their community while filling up their tanks. Acee’s Food & Fuel, located at 2105 E. 5th St. in Metropolis, is partnering with the Massac Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for a special fundraiser.

Throughout the month, customers who refuel at pumps 11 or 12 will have a portion of their gas sales donated to the Auxiliary, helping them continue their valuable work.

The Massac Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, established shortly after the hospital opened its doors in the late 1950s, has been dedicated to fundraising efforts that support various departments within the hospital. Their mission is to ensure that necessary purchases can be made to enhance patient care and services. The Auxiliary operates the Forget Me Not Gift Shop, located just inside the main entrance of Massac Memorial Hospital at 28 Chick Street. This shop, entirely run by volunteers, offers a variety of gifts, making it an ideal destination for anyone searching for a thoughtful present.

The Gift Shop, open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., not only provides unique items for shoppers but also represents an opportunity for community members to get involved. Those interested in volunteering at the shop can contribute meaningfully while supporting the hospital’s mission.

In addition to their retail efforts, the Auxiliary has a scholarship program that began in the early 1960s. This initiative provides support to high school seniors pursuing further education in healthcare-related fields. Initially starting as one-year $500 scholarships, they now proudly award two or three one-year $1,000 scholarships annually, dependent on available funds.

The community’s involvement is crucial for the Auxiliary’s continued success. Whether it’s through filling up at Acee’s or contributing to the gift shop, residents can make a significant impact. For those wanting to stay updated on the Auxiliary’s activities and the gift shop, following their Facebook page is encouraged.
