(WMOK) Metropolis, IL –
Sheriff Chad Kaylor recently provided an update on the crime situation in Massac County during his appearance on WMOK’s Coffee Program.
He noted that overall crime rates have remained steady, with the exception of an increase in stolen vehicles, prompting active investigations by the sheriff’s department.
A significant development occurred when the Massac County Sheriff’s Department received a valuable tip from Johnson County about a stolen Nissan Armada that was believed to be in Johnson County. Massac County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for a property in Buncombe, near West Vienna. Law Enforcement successfully recovered the stolen vehicle, albeit stripped of its valuable parts and subjected to an attempt to crush and bury it.
Sheriff Kaylor said the procedure of recovering the vehicle was similar to an incident on North Avenue in Metropolis about five years ago in which an excavaor was brought in to recover a stolen vehicle.
Subsequent to a thorough investigation, two individuals, Clayton White of Johnson County in possession of the stolen vehicle and Adam Burnham of Massac County – in possession of parts from the vehicle, were apprehended and charged in connection with the crime.
Clayton White faced charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, while Adam Burnham was charged with possession of stolen parts.
Sheriff Kaylor commended the collaborative efforts between counties and extended gratitude for the public’s assistance in combating crime, underscoring the successful resolution of this case.
