Massac Memorial Hospital Honored for Outstanding Performance by Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network

Massac Memorial Hospital  announced that the hospital has been recognized by the Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network (ICAHN) as a 2024 Neighbors Helping Neighbor Award recipient. ICAHN recognized Massac Memorial Hospital for outstanding performance in Patient Satisfaction.

When asked about receiving this award, Chief Operations Officer, Janet Vannatter replied, “We consider it an honor to take care of our friends and neighbors in Southern Illinois. Our team takes great pride in providing exceptional care to our community, and we are thrilled to be recognized. This award is a testament to the care that is given each and every day by every member of our Massac Team and we look forward to continuing to serve Southern Illinois”.

This is the first year that ICAHN has recognized its member hospitals for their yearlong work and dedication during National Hospital Week. The Neighbors Helping Neighbors Awards recognized fourteen outstanding small, rural hospitals based on quality, operational, and financial performance.

ICAHN’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors Awards are based upon the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX©. Now in its 14th year, the INDEX is the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. Featuring a methodology utilizing publicly available data, the INDEX is leveraged nationwide by rural hospitals, health systems with rural affiliates, hospital associations, and state offices of rural health to measure and monitor performance across a variety of areas impacting hospital operations and finance.

Winners were announced on Friday, May 17, 2024, by ICAHN Board President, Karissa Turner, Wabash General Hospital CEO, during a virtual recognition ceremony.

Across the state of Illinois, our rural hospitals work diligently each day to provide quality healthcare to the communities they serve,” said Pat Schou, Executive Director, Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network. “We are thrilled to be able to introduce the Neighbors Helping Neighbors award program, and recognize these facilities, their leadership teams, and their staff for their commitment and dedication.”

ICAHN plans to make this an annual award to be able to recognize the important role that Illinois critical access and small, rural hospitals have in their local communities.

ICAHN is a network of 60 small, rural hospitals dedicated to strengthening the operations of its member hospitals through collaboration. The organization is composed of Illinois hospitals who have earned critical access hospital designation by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is recognized nationally for its work with rural healthcare, administering several state, federal, and private healthcare programs.
