Arrowleaf Hosting Weekly Grief Support Groups in Golconda

GOLCONDA—Arrowleaf is hosting weekly grief support groups from 5PM to 6PM at Golden Circle in Golconda. Facilitating these groups is Peer Recovery Coach Melissa Smith.

The goal of the grief support group is to provide a place to learn real skills for navigating the experience of loss successfully while feeling validated, heard and understood,” explained Smith. “The goal is to provide community members an opportunity to educate themselves about the grieving process and their role in it.”

According to Smith, the meetings are open and informal with weekly topics planned.

We open by welcoming everyone and explaining the purpose and goal of the group and everyone introduces themselves,” said Smith. “Every Thursday a topic is chosen to discuss. The second Thursday of each month is reserved for open discussion.”

Smith works to establish a setting where participants feel comfortable opening up to one another while addressing each topic.

As the facilitator, my role is to create a safe environment that encourages participants to share their thoughts freely.”
