Massac County Court House Gets New 70′ Tower

Massac County Commissioner Jerel Childers told WMOK during a recent Coffee Break about the upcoming replacement of a tower at the Massac County Courthouse and Massac County EMA Director Brian Horn joined us last week as the work was underway.
When Horn came in to the studio on Thursday for Coffee Break he told WMOK the tower was being set in concrete.  It’s was previously anchored directly into the ground.  Two days had been cleared for the work and they finished in a timely manner. Horn said that the tower has definitely been in place for 30 years and they assume longer.

Director Horn said the Rohn25 tower  holds several different antennas for communications. It currently has a 80 meter, 40 meter, and 2 meter antenna for HAM communications. It also has a VHF, UHF, and Starcom antenna for emergency communications.

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook statement for our area. There is also a Freeze Warning in effect until October 18 at 9AM.

Today and Tonight

A hard freeze is expected across most of the area tonight, which will end the growing season. A Freeze Warning has been issued for the entire Quad State region from tonight through Tuesday morning. Elevated fire danger is expected this afternoon due to gusty winds, lower humidity values and continued drought conditions. The worst conditions are expected this afternoon into this evening. Any fire may quickly get out of control.

Tuesday through Sunday Fire weather danger becomes elevated again on Thursday due to lower humidity, dry soils, and breezy conditions and will likely persist through at least Saturday.

Today is National Boss Day!  Celebrated on October 16, or the closest weekday if that date falls on a weekend, National Boss Day is a day when appreciation is shown to bosses. The day was thought up by Patricia Bays Haroski, who registered the day with the United States Chamber of Commerce in 1958. Haroski worked at the State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois, and wanted to create the day to show appreciation for her boss and other bosses. She also thought the day could be useful in improving the relationship between bosses and employees. She chose the birthday of her father as the date of the holiday. Soon afterward, in 1962, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner proclaimed the day. On the holiday, greeting cards, gift certificates, and other gifts have been given to bosses. Some companies have held company lunches or other group activities on the day. But, the day has also not been without its critics, who say it goes against etiquette and puts monetary pressure on employees.
