Today – Showers likely before 1pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm with a high near 78°. Southwest wind 7 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Tonight – A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 46°.

The Massac County Fire Protection District has advised that a burn ban is now in effect for Massac County until further notice.


The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook statement for our area. Today and tonight Thunderstorms will be possible through this evening. There is a small chance some of the storms could become severe with damaging winds the main threat. The greatest threat would be along the Tennessee border and toward the Pennyrile Region.

Thursday through Tuesday Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are forecast Thursday and Friday afternoon. Heed burn bans and use caution when handling fire triggers.


Metropolis Man Charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery

On September 26,2022 Metropolis Police were called to a residence in the Spence Apartments to investigate a report of Domestic Battery at a residence in the Spence Apartments. The investigation revealed that 25 year old Dalton L Wiley of Metropolis has choked the victim to a state of unconsciousness and had also pulled a knife on her.   Wiley was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Plant a Row, Watch COPE Grow – Food Donation Garden offers many opportunities for volunteers of all skill levels.  Recently via social media they thanked regular volunteer Rebecca Hannum for tending to the garden, harvesting produce, and making deliveries of produce to COPE.

The garden has now given over 500 pounds of food this year.

Those who would like to volunteer in the garden can call 618-524-2270 for more information.

The next Metropolis City Clean Up Week for 2022 will be held the week of November 14-18. This will be the last Metropolis City Clean Up Week for the year.

The Metropolis Police Department will honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month by selling Pink Metropolis Police Department Patches to raise funds. The patches are $15.00 each. You can contact Chief Masse or stop by the police department to get a patch.  The Metropolis Police Department is located at 1020 Broadway Street in Metropolis.

6P- Metropolis American Legion Post 306  holds monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month. The Metropolis American Legion Post 306 is located at 321 Market St.

6P Fall 2022 Women’s Personal Defense Course held at the Metropolis Community Center. This is a 5 week course for women/girls only. Participants will learn how and where to strike attackers, how to avoid potential threats, and ultimately test their new skills and go all out on the instructors. Course tickets are $80.

12-4P-  Project Hope Vaccine Clinic will take place at Project Hope Humane Society, 1698 W. 10th. Vaccines for rabies and dog and cat booster shots will be available, as well as microchipping, baths and toenail trims.

Brookport Community Yard Sales

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2022 AT 6 PM – 9 PMMassac County Mental Health’s Haunted Hayride – Massac County Youth Fairgrounds – 4476 Korte Rd, Metropolis.   Those attending may ride in the main wagon, drive their car or even bring their own wagon through the haunted hayride route!
All proceeds go to Massac County Mental Health community programs.
Massac County Mental Health is in need of volunteers to help with a Haunted Hayride and calls on our local 4H’ers and others to help out.  Volunteers are needed to dress up and walk around the path scaring people or to claim a space of their own to create a spooky scene. The staff at MCMH have suggestions if needed.  Please contact MCMH at (618) 926-2402 to express interest in partnering with them.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner To Be Held at The Refuge Church

The Refuge Church invites you to join them for a free Thanksgiving Dinner that will be held on November 19th between 5-7P. The community dinner will be held in the Refuge Church parking lot located at 714 Filmore St.

They will have 2 options available: Drive-Thru Pick Up or Meal Delivery in the city of Metropolis.
Those needing meals delivered: Reserve your meal ahead of time by calling (270)933-3466 Pastor Tony Morris will collect all information needed for you to receive a hot thanksgiving dinner.
When calling be prepared to give a name for your order, how many meals needed for your order, your address & a phone number of contact to be placed with your order info.

The church will stop taking meal delivery orders on Nov. 17th at 4pm but drive thru option will still be available. For those doing meal delivery expect your thanksgiving dinner on SAT. Nov 19TH between the hours of 3-4:30P

For all those doing drive thru, just drive up in the parking lot. They will just need to know how many meals you need. Drive-Thru hours will be from 5-7P in the church parking lot. RSVP on their Facebook page to give them a head count. No matter your story there is a place at the table for you!

Joppa-Maple Grove Unit School District 38

Lifetouch Retakes – Joppa Maple Grove has advised that there was a problem at the lab with the pictures that were taken last month so the order has been delayed.  Lifetouch has confirmed that folks should receive pictures any day now.
Meet the Teams will start at 5:00 on November 5th. The booster club will be selling hotdogs and hamburgers, athletes will eat for free. There will be some amazing raffle baskets! There will also be uniforms from years past for sale. They will also be honoring the veterans in attendance with free Longhorn appetizer cards. If all goes as planned there will also be an alumni game to wrap up the evening.
