WMOK Morning Show

6a-10 Monday thru Friday

One of our topics this week on the WMOK Morning Show has been the 45th anniversary of the passing of Elvis Presley.  We’ve found many interesting tidbits and covered many facets of Elvis this week on the morning show and ran across one that we found interesting enough to add to this – our online WMOK News Check “Yellow Sheet”:

According to then-Associated Press reporter Mark Knoller, who covered Elvis Presley’s funeral in Memphis, the grounds of the Forest Hill Cemetery were a “sea of flowers.”

Some fans sent various floral arrangements in the shape of guitars, hearts, and musical notes.  Alain Le Garsmeur/Getty Images

“I remember a spokesperson for FTD, the flowers-by-wire service, telling us they had more orders that day for Elvis than ever before in their history,”  Knoller later wrote for CBS News. “We were told 3,116 floral arrangements had been delivered.”

By that afternoon, Memphis ran out of flowers and scrambled to get additional flowers shipped in from around the nation.

Join us for the WMOK Morning Show every weekday beginning at 6am for your WMOK News Check followed by the WMOK Morning Show.
