Illinois Link system changing – service interruption coming

The Illinois Department of Human Services has advised that Illinois is transitioning the Illinois Link Card System to a new system.The transition of the Illinois Link Card System to the new system will occur on Saturday August 20th, 2022 beginning at 11:00 PM and will continue through 6:00 PM Sunday August 21st, 2022.  During this downtime, your LINK card will not be available to make purchases or ATM withdrawals. Additionally, you will not be able to access your account information from the Illinois Link Helpline at 1-800-678-LINK or the Illinois Link Card Website.

Link cards will become active again on  Sunday August 21st, 2022 after 6:00 pm.


Metropolis Man Previously Trespassed from Property Found Hiding within the Residence

On August 11, 2022 a Metropolis Police officer responded to a residence in the 700 block of E. 7th St for a trespassing complaint.  Upon arrival officers located Darrell A McCoy,59, Metropolis hiding inside the residence after having been previously trespassed from the property.  McCoy was also wanted on a warrant issued by Massac County for Criminal Trespass to residence.  McCoy was charged with Criminal Trespass to residence and was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

1P until August 21 at 1AM Trails Billiards Bar & Grill in Metropolis will hold a Singles 8 Ball tournament. 6 & Under Singles 8 Ball Tournament starts at 2PM Sharp.

Next Week:

Tuesday – August 23rd – Metropolis Elks Lodge #1428 Salad Luncheon from 11a-1p or until they run out.  The menu includes Chicken Salad, a variety of Pasta Salads, Veggie Salads, Sweet Salads, Bread and a drink.  Reservations were required during their July Salad Luncheon – however they will not require reservations for the August or September Salad Luncheons.  The September Salad Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, September 20.  The Metropolis Elks Lodge is located at 104 west 4th Street in Metropolis.

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook statement for our area. Today and Tonight – Areas of dense fog are expected through 8 AM CDT across much of southern Illinois, the Purchase area of western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri along the Mississippi River.  An isolated thunderstorm is possible this morning mainly southwest of a line from Van Buren to Poplar Bluff. Lightning and brief heavy rain will be the main storm hazards.

Thursday through Tuesday – An isolated thunderstorm is possible Friday afternoon across portions of the Pennyrile region of west Kentucky. A chance of thunderstorms is forecast each day from Saturday through Tuesday. The best chances will be Sunday into Monday. Locally heavy rainfall and lightning will be the primary concerns.

The Massac County Patriots will begin the football season on September 2 at Ballard Memorial.  WMOK has received word  that the game scheduled for August 26th will not take place.  In it’s place will be Meet the Patriots.
