Fall Clean Up Week for Metropolis this Week –
Monday, August 15 through Friday, August 19

The City of Metropolis’ Fall Clean Up Week begins today and continues through Friday, August 19th.
Items must be at your normal pick up point and within 5 feet of the trash container.
All items must be bagged or in a container.
Anything loose must be bundled for one person to handle.
No construction or demolition debris or electronics will be picked up.
No tires, batteries, hazardous/medical waste, car parts, satellites, yard waste, flammable liquids, paint, electronics of any kind, or appliances.

You are asked to have your trash out on your normal day and out by 6A.

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 26,462 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 123 deaths since August 5, 2022. Read the full story here.



Illinois Link system changing – service interruption coming

The Illinois Department of Human Services has advised that Illinois is transitioning the Illinois Link Card System to a new system.

The transition of the Illinois Link Card System to the new system will occur on Saturday August 20th, 2022 beginning at 11:00 PM and will continue through 6:00 PM Sunday August 21st, 2022.  During this downtime, your LINK card will not be available to make purchases or ATM withdrawals. Additionally, you will not be able to access your account information from the Illinois Link Helpline at 1-800-678-LINK or the Illinois Link Card Website.

Link cards will become active again on  Sunday August 21st, 2022 after 6:00 pm.

All benefits that were available prior to transition will still be available after transition.  You do not need a new Link Card. The blue Link Card will work after transition.  Your four digit PIN will remain the same.

Before the transition, you should prepare by making food purchases, cash purchases and/or cash withdrawals needed during the transition prior to 11:00 PM on Saturday August 20th, 2022. The downtime will last until 6:00 PM on Sunday August 21st, 2022.  During the downtime, you will not be able to access the Illinois Link Helpline. After the transition is over on Sunday August 21st, 2022, the Illinois Link Helpline 1-800-678-LINK will resume it’s normal functionality.

Please bring your ID and proof of Massac County residency. Clients may pick up food items once a month in Brookport or Metropolis.

The Massac County Patriots will begin the football season on September 2 at Ballard Memorial.  WMOK has received word  that the game scheduled for August 26th will not take place.  In it’s place will be Meet the Patriots.
