Metropolis 66 reopened at 2pm yesterday following a closure of a little more than 24 hours

The Metropolis 66 reopened yesterday afternoon at 2pm following the execution of a search warrant by the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Revenue on Wednesday morning.

When WMOK spoke with Store Manager, Carmen Beeding on Wednesday afternoon  she advised that though it had been a stressful day – officials were kind and accommodating during the event which included the seizure of point of sale systems and records.  Carmen was in touch with her supervisors from KKG – the company who owns the Metropolis 66.  Carmen said that the owners have assured her that there are no ‘wrong doings’ and they are fully cooperating with the Illinois Department of Revenue.

WMOK has followed up with Beeding several times today and she has advised that a technician was on site this morning at the Metropolis 66 to determine what equipment would need to be replaced so that the store can reopen.

The Metropolis 66 will be able to conduct EBT and Cash sales.  The owners of the Metropolis 66 are in the process of securing a credit card machine for the Metropolis location and hope to have it in place today.

Carmen advised that rumors about town that guns were drawn when officials entered the store are absolutely false; however they greatly appreciate all of their regular customers and members of the community who reached out to and attempted to reach out to them on Wednesday in concerns for their well-being.

Today is International Beer  Day! International Beer Day is for enjoying beer, for uniting the world by celebrating the beer of all nations and cultures, and for celebrating the brewers and bartenders who make and serve the beer. The day is observed at bars, breweries, backyard barbecues, and anywhere beer can be found. Taking place on the first Friday in August, International Beer Day was created in 2007 by Jesse Avshalomov and was first celebrated the following year. It was originally celebrated on August 5 each year but began being celebrated on the first Friday of August beginning in 2013. August was chosen as the month for the holiday because it is in the summer and is not near many other beer holidays. It began as a small, localized event, and has since spread around the world, with over 200 cities formally participating in events.

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook Statement for our area.

Today and Tonight Heavy rain is a concern across western Kentucky today. Though a disturbance continues to slowly depart the area to the east, flash flooding is still possible this morning. Thus, a flood watch for most of western Kentucky has been extended until 100 PM.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected to redevelop across much of the region today, diminishing in coverage overall tonight. Lightning and locally heavy rain will be the primary hazards.

Saturday through Thursday There will be isolated to scattered thunderstorm activity over the weekend, mainly during the heat of the day, with the best coverage in western Kentucky and southwestern Indiana. Showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage from late Monday through Wednesday as a frontal boundary slowly works its way through the region. Lightning and locally heavy rain should be the primary storm related hazards with thunderstorms.
