Today we expect a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall, with a high near 89°.  Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.
Tonight – Partly cloudy, with a low around 72°. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph.
Friday  – Sunny, with a high near 92°. Winds could gust as high as 32 mph.
Friday Night – Mostly clear, with a low around 73°.

Metropolis Arrests

May 10, 2022 – Metropolis Officers and Detectives assisted McCracken County in their investigation of a bank robbery that occurred in Lone Oak, KY. The investigation led to surveillance of two houses in Metropolis once a suspect was identified. The suspect, Reginald R. Thomas,66, Metropolis was arrested after he was observed exiting a residence on Oak Drive. Thomas was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

May 10, 2022 – Justin E. Meeks,31, Metropolis was arrested in the 1000 block of E. 2nd. Meeks was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for escape. Meeks was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.


Massac County Drug Awareness Coalition Director Holly Barker Windhorst has updated WMOK as to the status of the Narcotics Anonymous meetings.
Windhorst regrettably told WMOK that due to unforeseen obstacles the meetings will remain on hiatus.
WMOK will stay in touch with Director Windhorst on the status of the meetings and we will welcome Holly into the studio for WMOK’s Coffee Break on Thursday June 8th.

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook Statement for our area. Today and Tonight – Widely scattered to scattered thunderstorms are expected today. A few of the thunderstorms may approach severe limits during the morning, with marginal hail and gusty winds the primary hazards. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected to redevelop tonight. A few of the storms may become severe with damaging winds and hail. In addition, some thunderstorms could produce heavy rain capable of isolated flooding. The better chances for strong to severe thunderstorms will be over west Kentucky and a small part of southeast Illinois and southwest Indiana.

Thursday through Tuesday – Thunderstorms are forecast early Thursday, then again Friday night through Saturday evening. A few of the thunderstorms Thursday morning, Friday night, and Saturday afternoon and evening may approach severe limits with gusty winds and hail as the primary hazards. Otherwise, locally heavy rain and lightning can be expected with any of the thunderstorms.

City of Metropolis Spring Clean Up Week May 16 – May 20, 2022


On Friday, May 20 from 9:30 – 11:30AM the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church will have a Food Distribution Event.


On Saturday, May 21, from  7 AM – 12 PM  at the Vienna Community Farmers Market Johnson County Courthouse  –  Vienna Community Farmers Market located on the town square in Vienna, IL 1.5 miles west of I-24.
