The Illinois Department of Transportation is updating motorists traveling on I-24 in Massac County that pavement patching and hot mix asphalt resurfacing will begin April 25, 2022, weather permitting.

The pavement patching and hot mix asphalt resurfacing from the structures over Country Club Road (Mile Post 35) to the Ohio River Bridge (Mile Post 39), including the I-24/US 45 Metropolis interchange are to be completed at night from 7 PM to 7 AM Monday night through Friday morning. All lanes in this area shall be open to traffic from 7 AM Friday to midnight Sunday. The lane closures will remain during the daytime, Monday through Thursday, and no work is allowed from 7 AM to 7 PM.

Bridge work will continue on the various structures from the Johnson County line (Mile Post 24) to the structures over Country Club Road (Mile Post 35). Daytime pavement patching and hot mix asphalt resurfacing will begin once all bridge work is completed in this area. The entire project is to be completed by November 15, 2022. Motorists should be aware of the 14’-3” width restriction, reduce speed, be alert for equipment and workers and use extreme caution while traveling through all work zones.

To avoid any delays, motorists should seek an alternate route. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the work zone as quickly as possible.

Today is National Stress Awareness Day! Stress can be defined as a physical response of the body to changes, during which chemicals are released into the blood. There are so many reasons people become stressed, such as issues with finances, relationships, or work, or a sudden traumatic event. Some stress, positive stress, is good, as it can push us forward. But negative stress—if it is extreme or constant—can do both physical and mental damage to the body. There are many warning signs and damaging effects of stress, such as anxiety, depression, dizziness, dry mouth, headaches, an upset stomach, diarrhea and constipation, a weak immune system, back pain, a stiff neck and other tight muscles, fatigue, insomnia, weight gain or loss, expanded difficulties with relationships or at work, high blood pressure, and even heart disease.

National Stress Awareness Day takes place the day after taxes are due—a day on which there may be a lot of stress. The day also takes place during Stress Awareness Month. Since 1992, the year both the day and the month were created, they have been sponsored by the Health Resource Network (HRN), a non-profit health education organization. On National Stress Awareness Day, we focus on this leading health problem and raise awareness about the causes and cures of it. It is a day when people recognize their own stress, and figure out what steps they are going to take to overcome it.

In 2020 opioid deaths among Illinois residents increased 32.7% from 2,219 deaths in 2019 to 2,944 deaths in 2020. Southern Seven Health Department (S7HD) has partnered with Illinois Department of Public Health to be a part of the effort in reducing opioid deaths in Illinois. All they need is 20-30 minutes of your time and a way to show a short video. They’ll go over the information with you and how to administer the nasal NARCAN, and at the end of the meeting a NARCAN Kit will be in the hand of everyone in attendance. If interested in scheduling a FREE NARCAN Training, contact Bobi Cavins, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator of S7HD at 618-634-2297 X9123 or bcavins@s7hd.org .
