Mt. Sterling Church will be open as a storm shelter this evening, for anyone in need. Mt. Sterling Church is located at 1780 Mt. Sterling Rd.

Thehttp://southern7.org advises due to expected severe weather this afternoon, today’s Wellness on Wheels (WOW) Health Screening Event at SMILES Senior Center in Mounds has been postponed. Rescheduling information will be shared when available.

Severe thunderstorms, including tornadoes, are expected this afternoon and evening. There is a *Level 4* Risk of severe thunderstorms. A Level 4 Risk typically only occurs for a given location in our region a couple times per year, the last being December 10, 2021. Per SPC, wind fields this afternoon “will create conditions very favorable for supercells and tornadoes.” Some of these tornadoes could be strong (EF2+), and long tracking. The severe threat should evolve more toward thunderstorm wind damage (potentially widespread in some areas) by this evening as a thunderstorm squall-line develops and progresses east.

Timing wise, the threat should be mainly during the afternoon for areas west of the Mississippi and mainly during the mid-late afternoon and evening east of the Mississippi River. And please don’t underestimate the flooding threat (Flood Watch in effect) given the recent and expected heavy rainfall. Ensure you know how to stay safe (see https://www.weather.gov/safety/tornado-during and https://www.weather.gov/safety/flood). Have your weather radio or other means of warning reception close at hand, and closely monitor weather.gov and/or your favorite media source for the very latest on this dangerous event.

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook statement for our area.

A Wind Advisory is posted from 9 AM through 7 PM CDT for the entire outlook area. Please see the latest Wind Advisory for details. A Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 pm CDT for southern sections of west Kentucky. Please refer to the latest Flood watch for details.

A significant severe weather episode is likely today and this evening for the entire outlook area. The Storm Prediction Center has the entire area in a Moderate Risk of Severe Weather.

Damaging winds of 60 to 70 mph winds or higher, large hail up to two inches, and tornadoes are all possible.

A few storms may reach severe limits this morning over part of the outlook area, but the main concern will be with the line of thunderstorms expected to move from west to east across the entire outlook area between 1 pm to 10 pm this Wednesday.

Widespread damaging straight line winds are expected. A few embedded tornadoes are possible within the line of storms this afternoon and evening. Large hail will be mostly likely over the Purchase area of west Kentucky and across parts of southeast Missouri.

Today is the International Day of Pink!  International Day of Pink aspires to create a more inclusive and diverse world. It promotes acceptance, equality, and taking a stand against bullying. Pink shirts are worn in solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, who continue to face hate, discrimination, bullying, and violence. Keeping the clock from turning back on human rights, educating youth not to repeat the mistakes of the past, encouraging youth to challenge social norms and ask more of their educators, and demanding more from policymakers are some goals of the day.

David Shepherd and Travis Price, seniors at Central Kings Rural High School near Cambridge Station, in Nova Scotia, Canada, started International Day of Pink after they saw a freshman being bullied and threatened with getting beat up for wearing a pink shirt. They bought 50 pink shirts at a discount store and sent emails to their male friends asking them to wear them to school. Their line of thought was that 50 people couldn’t be bullied at once. But the “sea of pink” ended up being much larger than they had anticipated. Not only were the 50 shirts worn, but many other students wore pink as well.

By the end of the week, “pink day” was being held at other schools in Nova Scotia. The media picked up on it and word of the day continued to spread, and schools all around the country took part the following week. Subsequently, Jer’s Vision formally created International Day of Pink. Now known as The Canadian Centre for Gender & Sexual Diversity, they continue to be the organizers of the day, which schools and millions of people around the world take part in.
