Pope County Emergency Services Respond to Snake Bite Victim

On the evening of September 30th, just before 7 PM, the Rural Pope County Fire Protection District was toned out for a female at Indian Kitchen Trail who had been bitten by a snake.

Approximately seven personnel responded, helping bring the woman out of the trail with the help of the Pope County Ambulance. They then set up air vac and the patient was flown to the hospital.

WMOK checked in with Rural Pope County Fire Protection District and they advised that it is believed that the snake was a copperhead. They advised additionally that the patient was flown to Western Baptist for anti-venom.

WMOK wants to remind you to always use extreme caution and watch out for poisonous snakes and if you should be bitten you should call 911 immediately and give them as many details about the appearance of the snake as possible.

The Fire Protection District are searching for three to four volunteer firefighters. The applicants MUST be between the ages of 18 and 40 years old. MUST be able to pass a background check and will be interviewed by all fire officers before being accepted. They’re searching for strong good-hearted people who are physically fit enough to be able to do what is required on a rescue scene or a fire call for extended periods of time in all weather conditions, including wearing an SCBA (self-con-tained breathing apparatus).
