Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week, celebrated during the second full week of April, is a time to recognize and thank animal care and control professionals for their dedication and hard work in protecting animals and public safety.

3pm – CPR Renewal Class – Metropolis Nursing and Rehab – 2299 Metropolis St Metropolis, IL  Class is approximately 2 hours of education followed by an untimed 25-question test. Fee is $45 per student.  Space is limited.

C.O.P.E. Food Pantry Distributions in Massac County

The C.O.P.E. food pantry will be closed on April 18 — Good Friday .
We will reopen the following week at our regular hours . M-W-F from 9:00 am to 3:00pm .

C.O.P.E. Food Pantry Distribution takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Metropolis at 1013 North Avenue from 9am until 3pm.  Please bring your photo I.D. and proof of Massac County Residency.

Brookport Distribution – 9A- 12P – Christian Church building that is directly behind the Harry Statham gymnasium . Every 3rd Thursday of the month 9A-12P – (618)524-3635

Joppa Distribution – 10A-12P – Civic Center next to Joppa City Hall. Every 3rd Saturday a month. Please bring your photo I.D. and proof of Massac County residency. (618) 524-3635.

Shawnee Development Council Hosts Walk-In Thursdays for Community Support

WMOK (Metropolis, IL) – The Shawnee Development Council is excited to announce that Thursdays will now be designated as walk-in days for community members seeking assistance. This initiative aims to make services more accessible to residents without the need for prior appointments.

Each Thursday, individuals can visit the council and receive the support they need in a convenient, no-hassle setting. Those interested in utilizing this service are encouraged to bring all required documentation to ensure a smooth and efficient process.

The walk-in program reflects the council’s commitment to serving the community and addressing the needs of residents effectively. By eliminating the need for appointments, the Shawnee Development Council hopes to create a welcoming environment for anyone seeking help.

The Metropolis Elks Lodge monthly meetings take place the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. Except July, August and December only the 1st Tuesday. Members only can attend. Applications can be picked up at the Lodge or from a member.

3rd Annual Senior Health and Fitness Day

3rd Annual Senior Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 28th from 9am-noon at Fort Massac State Park. This event is OPEN to the community to come out and see what services are available for our senior adults in our community. We will have a free lunch available through Happy Hearts, vendors set up with lots of great educational information, giveaways, games, and BINGO!!
