WMOK – Metropolis, IL – On December 27, 2024, a hit-and-run incident on the ramp from I-24 westbound to US 45 led to the arrest of a Metropolis man. Local officers responded promptly to reports of the crash, with a direction of travel provided for the suspected offender.
A diligent Metropolis officer quickly located the vehicle on Country Club Rd, heading westbound. The officer turned around and followed the vehicle until it came to a stop at a residence on Lewis Estates Dr. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer discovered that the driver, 29-year-old Jared L. Oliver of Metropolis, had three young children in the car.
Reports indicate that Oliver was argumentative and exhibited aggressive behavior during the interaction with law enforcement. Furthermore, he showed signs of impairment and admitted to having consumed alcohol prior to leaving the scene of the crash.
Oliver subsequently failed multiple field sobriety tests, which prompted officers to arrest him. He faces several serious charges, including DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, illegal transportation of open alcohol, and three counts of child endangerment. He is currently being held at the Massac County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
