Traffic Stop Leads to Drug and Firearm Arrests in Metropolis

Metropolis, IL – December 16, 2024 – A routine traffic stop in Metropolis resulted in multiple charges for two individuals after police discovered drugs and a firearm in their vehicle.

On December 15, a Metropolis Officer observed a vehicle leaving Huck’s and recognized the driver as 33-year-old James B. Cannamore. Knowing that Cannamore’s driver’s license was revoked, the officer initiated a traffic stop. During the stop, Cannamore was unable to provide proof of insurance, prompting police to call a tow truck for the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a handgun, methamphetamine, and syringes. Cannamore admitted to placing the firearm in the vehicle’s console, despite not having a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card. His passenger, 27-year-old Gabrielle M. Steinke, acknowledged ownership of the drugs found in the vehicle.

As a result of the traffic stop, Cannamore faces several charges, including driving with a revoked license, operating an uninsured vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Steinke has been charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Both individuals were been lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
