(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – The 2024 general election is approaching, and amidst the national noise and contention, our attention is turning towards the local elections in Massac County.

WMOK has obtained the sample ballot for the November 2024 general election from Massac County Clerk Haley Miles.

The ballot includes:

– A state advisory question regarding candidates interfering with election workers’ official duties. The question asks whether candidates appearing on the Illinois ballot for federal, state, or local office should be subject to civil penalties if they interfere or attempt to interfere with an election worker’s official duties.

– An advisory question proposing an additional tax on income greater than 1 million dollars. The question asks whether the Illinois Constitution should be amended to create an additional 3% tax on income greater than $1 million for the purpose of dedicating funds raised to property tax relief.

– Another advisory question regarding health insurance plans in Illinois that provide coverage for pregnancy benefits. This question asks whether all medically appropriate assisted reproductive treatments, including but not limited to in vitro fertilization, should be covered by any health insurance plan in Illinois that provides coverage for pregnancy benefits without limitation of the number of treatments.

The ballot also includes the following candidates:

– For the presidential election: Donald J. Trump and JD Vance running on the Republican ticket, and Kamala D. Harris and Tim Walz running on the Democratic ticket. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is listed as an independent candidate with Nicole Shanahan.

– For representative in Congress, 12th congressional district: Mike Boast running as a Republican and Brian Roberts on the Democratic ticket.

– For representative in the general assembly, 117th representative district: Patrick Windhorst running unopposed as a Republican.

– For County circuit clerk: Marcus Grace running unopposed as a Republican.

– For State’s attorney: Joshua Aaron Strathmeyer running unopposed as a Republican.

– For Massac County coroner: Michael T. Hillebrand running as a Republican, and Richard Webb running on the Democratic ticket.

– For supervisor of assessments in Massac County: Gary Hamm running unopposed as a Republican.

The race for Massac County commissioner will feature Jeff Brugger on the Republican ticket, Scotty G. Martin on the Democratic ticket, and Tim Pearcy for the Constitution Party.

The ballot will include questions regarding judicial retention as well as a .2% tax proposal from the Massac County Fire Protection District.
