(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – Metropolis Mayor Canada and Metropolis Animal Control Officer John Roman joined us recently to discuss the condition of some properties in town and what’s being done to improve the landscape.

  • Mayor Canada reiterates that the city will be happy to update folks on situations that they’ve brought to the city’s attention however they must know how to reach them.
  • Officer Roman discusses that the ticket goes to the owner of the property.

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – Metropolis Mayor Canada and Metropolis Animal Control Officer John Roman joined us recently to discuss the condition of some properties in town and what’s being done to improve the landscape.

  • WMOK: How many abandoned houses such as this do we have in town and approximately how many homeless people do we estimate to be living in the City of Metropolis?
    • Mayor Canada advises “quite a bit” on the homeless population and discusses an area on Old Marion Road known as “Big John/Little John to many at which several have pitched tents.  Regarding properties – Mayor Canada estimates 50.
  • Officer Roman discusses vehicles without tags and inoperable vehicles.
  • Officer Roman discusses the interaction of squatters with properties and the expected increase as the weather cools.
