600 Flag Display - Community Assistance Requested for Take Down

Today - 4pm - Metropolis Municipal Airport

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – The impressive display of 600 three by five foot flags, set up on Wednesday to honor Tech Sgt William Luster Leukering, will be taken down today, and volunteers are needed to assist.

Those available to help are asked to meet at the Metropolis Municipal Airport on Friday at 4:00 p.m. or Contact  618-409-0323 via call or text.

Massac County Youth Fair

Beef Night: Head to the Massac County Youth Fair on Korte Road, located behind Massac High School, for a delicious Shawnee Beef Producers Beef Night beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bimbos will be selling street corn to have with your sandwiches. Enjoy good food and company, and support the local youth.

Project Hope Humane Society Christmas in July Bingo

– Old-Fashioned Slide Card Bingo: After beef night, head to the community center on West 10th Street in Metropolis for a fun night of old-fashioned slide card bingo with Project Hope Humane Society. The Christmas in July-themed bingo event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and features:

‣ $1 per card to play (no admission fee)
‣ Concessions available for purchase
‣ Ongoing raffles and auctions
‣ Project Hope t-shirts with the new cat design available for purchase
‣ Project Hope cookbooks for just $1 each

On Saturday, rise and shine to start your day with the Metropolis and Massac County Farmers Market which kicks off at 7:00 a.m. and runs until noon. 
The Market offers a wide variety of goodies to start your weekend off right. Located at Dorothy Miller Park on East Front Street, the market boasts stunning views of the Ohio River.
Stock up on fresh produce, including sweet corn from Mr. Childress and refreshing Missouri watermelons from Mr. Verbarg.
Satisfy your sweet tooth with an array of breads, pastries, and treats.

 

Explore the market for beautiful plants, including garden plants, bedding plants, succulents, and tropicals.
You’ll also find unique handcrafted items and more.
Don’t miss out on the Early Bird Drawing!  Visitors who arrive and shop before 7:45 a.m. will be eligible to win prizes in the drawing, which takes place at 7:45 a.m. sharp. Winners must be present to win, so be sure to arrive early and get ready for a fantastic market day!

Join Metropolis Elks Lodge #1428 for a HUGE INDOOR YARD SALE on Saturday


Members of the Metropolis Elks Lodge are packing up their things and donating it all to sell – all in the name of charity! Proceeds from the sale will be going to charitable efforts by the Metropolis Elks. Enjoy a biscuit and gravy breakfast while you’re there! 

Also on Saturday the Massac County Youth Fair is back in action with the FFA Show on Korte Road, Behind Massac High.

Friday, July 19 – 6-9PM

Project Hope will hold a Christmas in July BINGO on Friday, July 19th, 2024, from 6-9 p.m. at the Metropolis Community Center at 900 W. 10th Street in Metropolis. The theme is Christmas in July, but they will have prizes and gifts of all sorts!! They use the old-fashioned slide cards, and it will be $1.00 per card to play. No admission fee! Concessions will be available, and raffles and auctions will be ongoing. T-shirts and $1.00 cookbooks, too!
