Fireworks in Metropolis on Friday!
(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – Step out into town on Friday, July 5th for Independence Day fireworks in the City of Metropolis—a dazzling fireworks display will be launched at approximately 9:15 PM from the Ohio River.
Head to the Harrah’s Metropolis parking lot at 6 PM for the Hometown Celebration, featuring:
– Inflatable games for kids
– Delicious food and drinks from El Tequila Taqueria and Dr. Frankfurter’s Concession with Shake-Ups and more!
Admission to the Hometown Celebration is $5, benefiting the Back-to-School Supply Giveaway which Harrah’s brings to our community annually.
The event is proudly sponsored by the Greater Metropolis Convention & Visitors Bureau, the City of Metropolis, IL (Home of Superman), and Harrah’s Metropolis.

Start your Saturday at the Metropolis and Massac County Farmers Market and Finish it up with Fireworks in Golconda
Every Saturday through September 14th, head to Dorothy Miller Park on East Front Street in Metropolis for the Metropolis and Massac County Farmers Market. Since its launch on May 4th, under the direction of volunteers Kim Comer and Angie Lockard, the market has received rave reviews for bringing excitement and a sense of community to the park on Saturday mornings.
Shoppers can expect to find a wide variety of goods, including:
– Fresh produce
– Plants
– Breads
– Sweet treats
– Local honey
– Arts and crafts
– Tchotchkes and more!
Vendors set up at 6am, and the market offers an early bird special: Visitors to the market who arrive to shop and check in before 7:45 am are entered into a drawing, with winners announced at 7:45 am (must be present to win). Support local vendors and enjoy the community spirit!

Six String Circus band will entertain at the Pope County Courthouse Annex from 6pm to 8pm – with fireworks at dusk.
