(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – When Chief Harry Masse of the Metropolis Police Department joined us recently for WMOK’s Coffee Break program we asked him as we always do what’s been happening in City crime since we last spoke.
Chief Masse told us there had been nothing “earth-shattering” but they had had an interesting chase recently when two juveniles stole an Orkin truck in Paducah.
On June 17th Metropolis Police were notified by the Paducah Police that they were investigating a stolen truck that belonged to Orkin Exterminators.
The truck was pinging in the area of North Avenue and Country Club Road in Metropolis. Officers responded to the area.
Officer Suggs observed the vehicle southbound on North Avenue from Korte Road. The officer activated his license siren and the vehicle did not stop. Speeds were 57 and 30 and the offender got boxed in by the responding units at North Avenue and Carter Drive by Officer Holland, Chief Masse and other officers.
The driver was a 16-year-old juvenile with five other juveniles in the vehicle.
The driver was charged with possessing a stolen Auto, fleeing/attempting to elude police, speeding and no valid driver’s license. He was issued with a notice to appear, and after Paducah Police arrived and interviewed the subjects all were released to their parents.
