Two Week Closure Underway on Devers Road in Massac County
The affected road is Devers Road which runs between Super 8 and Acee’s Food and Fuel.
Director Harris recommends using Alexander Lane and Lindell May Lane as a detour.
Please plan your route accordingly. If all goes as planned he closure is expected to last until early July.
COPE Food Pantry Distribution – Adjusted Schedule with Added Distribution Point Beginning this Month
(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – COPE Food Pantry has adjusted its distribution schedule and added a new location to better serve the community.
Beginning this month, clients can pick up food items once a month at one of three locations:
-Metropolis (1013 North Ave, Mon, Wed, Fri, 9am-3pm),
-Brookport (Christian Church building, 3rd Thursday, 9am-12pm),
-Joppa (Civic Center, 3rd Saturday, 10am-12pm).
Remember to bring your ID and proof of Massac County residency. Call (618) 524-3635 for more information.

4P- City of Brookport – Massac County Events – Brookport Gears Up for Annual Fourth of July Celebration on Saturday June 29
(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – The City of Brookport is set to host its annual Fourth of July Celebration on Saturday, June 29, with a fun-filled lineup of events for the whole family.
The festivities will kick off with a parade at 4 p.m., which will make its way from Margrave Street to the park. Residents are encouraged to get creative and decorate their cars or golf carts to participate in the parade. Interested participants should contact Debbie Workman with the Parks & Recreation Committee through Brookport City Hall at 618-564-2351.
Once the parade arrives at the park, attendees can enjoy various activities, including a car show, refreshments, and more.
The celebration will culminate with a fireworks display at 9 p.m. Note that Highway 45 will be closed temporarily as the parade crosses the highway.
The parade lineup will begin at 3 p.m. at Margrave Street. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebration, and the City of Brookport looks forward to seeing you there!

Metropolis Events – Independence Day Fireworks in the City of Metropolis Scheduled for Friday July 5th – Harrah’s Metropolis to Host Annual Hometown Celebration
(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – Step out into town on Friday, July 5th for Independence Day fireworks in the City of Metropolis—a dazzling fireworks display will be launched at approximately 9:15 PM from the Ohio River.
Come out at 6pm to visit the Harrah’s Metropolis Hometown Celebration leading up to the fireworks display. Admission to the event is just $5, with proceeds benefiting the Back-to-School Supply Giveaway. The Hometown Celebration takes place in the Harrah’s Metropolis parking lot.
This year’s Hometown Celebration promises to be a fun-filled evening for the whole family, with a range of activities and attractions. Kids will enjoy the inflatable games, while adults can indulge in delicious food and drinks provided by El Tequila Taqueria and Dr. Frankfurter’s Concession, featuring their famous Shake-Ups.
The event is proudly sponsored by the Greater Metropolis Convention & Visitors Bureau, the City of Metropolis, IL (Home of Superman), and Harrah’s Metropolis.

Metropolis and Massac County Farmers Market Open Saturday from 7am until Noon
(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – The Metropolis and Massac County Farmers Market takes place every Saturday through September 14th at the Dorothy Miller Park on East Front Street in Metropolis.
You’ll find produce, plants, breads and bakery items, hand-crafted items, arts, upcycled clothing, sweets, crafts and creations and more at the Market.
Shop before 7:45am to be entered in the early bird drawing – drawing at 7:45am – Must be present to win.
The organizers of the market have advised WMOK that they have ranged between 12 and 25 vendors each week during the weeks that the market has taken place this season.
The volunteers look to add as many local producers of produce, vegetables, fruits, plants, flowers and other hand-crafted goods as possible.
