Metropolis Public Library reports uptick in Summer Traffic, New Hire and Amnesty Month Update

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – When Metropolis Public Library Interim-Director Colby Kennedy joined us for WMOK’s Coffee Break Program he told us there has been an uptick in traffic at the library since school let out for Summer Vacation.

Kennedy advised that they’ve been popping popcorn most days and have seen several families come out to enjoy the library.

Kennedy also updated WMOK on the new hire at the library.  Catherine Young began the position at the library in late May and dove right in to planning the 2024 Summer Reading Program.

Kennedy advised that the turn out for Amnesty Month at the library was not as plentiful as he had hoped.  He advised that even if it’s not Amnesty Month, folks can still contact them regarding overdue library books.  He emphasized that “it happens to everyone” and they would rather have the patron using the library again rather than staying away due to an overdue book.
