(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – WMOK spoke with Beau Dodson Weather this morning regarding the storm systems we experienced in the early morning.  He told us that a storm risk does remain until the cold front moves in this afternoon.  He went on to discuss our weather moving forward – including gusty winds and possible frost this week.

(WMOK) Metropolis IL – We had quite a few storms roll through the area this morning.  As we arrived at WMOK early this morning with tornado sirens ablair and pounding sheets of rain – the building went dark.

That’s when many  Massac County and Metropolis residents lost power.  The entire city of Metropolis was without electricity until around 9:00 a.m.

The power outage in the county was relatively short for most – just before 5:00 a.m. this morning Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative advised on their Facebook page that as the strong storms continued they were making their way through the service territory.

They started with just over 1100 member outages at 7:20 a.m. and by 8:00 a.m. had cut that in half.   479 members were still affected as of 10 am under Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative: 113 in Alexander 170 and Johnson 35 and Pulaski 142 in Union and Massac County seems to be completely restored.

We’ve been in touch with City officials this morning. Natalie Harris, Metropolis City works director advised us of street lights that were out at particularly busy intersections and we learned of a tree down on a home in the McCrary Street area of North Avenue.  The residents are well and accounted for.

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – Regarding the recent topic of the Metropolis Public Library – the dismissal of three members of the Board of Trustees and the appointment of three members to the library Board of Trustees has been tabled until April 22nd
