C.O.P.E. Food Pantry Helps Hundreds in Massac County in December

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – C.O.P.E. Food Pantry has advised that during their December distribution, they were able to provide 495 Holiday Bags in addition to the 495 regular pantries to those in need.

The folks at C.O.P.E. express extreme gratitude to those who have helped in 2023 and that without the assistance of the community, the holiday bags and C.O.P.E. itself would not be possible.

Not long ago as C.O.P.E. gave follow-up for one of their Fall months they advised that they had purchased 9,076 pounds of foodstuff that month in addition to the just over 1100 lb of foodstuffs donated by the community.

The need for C.O.P.E. in Massac County has grown greatly during 2023.  They advise that each time their doors are open they gain new patrons.

Moving into 2024 C.O.P.E. asks for the continued support of the community.  If you wish to donate or take part in assisting in the mission of C.O.P.E. you can visit them during pantry hours (9a-3p, M W F) at 1013 North Avenue in Metropolis.

George Reeves - TV's First Superman

Born on this day - 1914

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – We thank the Metropolis Super Museum for calling to our attention this morning that George Reeves’ TV’s first Superman would be 110 today!

George Reeves was an American actor best known for his portrayal of Superman in the 1950s television series “Adventures of Superman,” making him television’s first Superman.

Born on January 5, 1914, in Woolstock, Iowa, Reeves initially pursued a career in the arts before transitioning to acting. His breakthrough came with the role of Superman, which catapulted him to fame and made him an icon.

Tragically, Reeves’ life came to a mysterious and suspicious end.

On June 16, 1959, he was found dead from a gunshot wound in his home in Benedict Canyon, Los Angeles. His death was officially ruled a suicide, but it has been the subject of speculation and conspiracy theories, with some believing that he may have been murdered.

Reeves’ passing remains a controversial and enigmatic chapter in Hollywood history, leaving a lasting impact on his legacy and the way he is remembered.
