(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – It’s been an eventful morning in the Newsroom as we’ve kept close tabs on some extraordinary flash flooding issues in Massac County. As the rains poured down this morning scanner traffic began to sound urgent.
In the Franklin School vicinity of Massac a mother and two children called 911 to advise their car was trapped in flood waters. The water was inside the vehicle and the caller advised that it was beginning to reach the seats. Officers sped from many parts of the city and county and were able to remove the woman and her children – ages 2 and 6 – safely from the vehicle.
An ER doctor was safely removed from his vehicle which was trapped in flood waters and then taken to work by law enforcement so he could begin his work day.
Powers Church Road Bridge washed out this morning due to flash flood waters. Massac County Emergency Management Director Brian Horn sent photos of the situation and the Massac County Highway department will work to rectify the situation.
