Future of AM Radio in the spotlight earlier this month in Washington, DC - Withers Broadcasting Jeff Oestreich Tells Us More


(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – From reporting the latest weather updates and providing vital emergency warnings to covering the local high school football game, communities across the country depend on AM radio.

From small and rural markets to major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and Atlanta, AM stations are among the most popular for news, sports, entertainment and weather. Over 80 million people in the U.S. listen to AM radio each month, according to Nielsen.

Recently, Jeff Oestreich – Head Engineer of Withers Broadcasting was one of many broadcasters from around the country who went to Washington, DC for a conference hosted by the National Association of Broadcasters and the National Alliance of State Broadcasters Associations that focused on broadcasters’ response to certain automakers removing AM radio from their newer model vehicles.

In the clip below Oestreich talks about his recent trip to Washington DC , explains the “daisy chain” that carries emergency information through the state of Illinois – beginning with WLS-AM 890 in Chicago and ending with WMOK AM 920 in Metropolis.
