Multiple Agencies on Scene of “StandOff Type situation” in Metropolis Neighborhood

WMOK has been following a situation unfolding just off of North Avenue in Metropolis since around 2:30 this afternoon.

Though details that we can release to the public are limited at this time the Metropolis Police Department is on the scene in the area of 20th and McCrary in Metropolis. The Massac County Sheriff’s Department is there as well as ISP Illinois State Police and other agencies.

A perimeter has been in place during the duration of the afternoon to secure the area in what seems to be a standoff situation of sorts.

It’s our understanding that there is an individual inside the home and during an unfolding of events this afternoon – the details of which need to be left until the situation has resolved – that individual has refused to exit the home for officers.

Metropolis Police Chief Harry Masse advised a bit ago that a negotiator is enroute to work with the subject in an attempt to get him to exit the residence.

it has been our understanding from some that folks in nearby homes have either been asked to evacuate their homes or have chosen to evacuate their homes. We are unable to definitively determine which of those at this time however many of advised that they have left their residences on that street and in that immediate neighborhood.

WMOK will continue to follow this incident as it unfolds and bring you further details as we’re able to obtain them.
