National Gingerbread Day

Although ginger originated in the rainforests of Southeast Asia, the first recorded use of gingerbread dates to 992, when Gregory of Nicopolis, an Armenian monk, brought it to Europe and taught French priests how to cook it. During this time, gingerbread meant “preserved ginger”, which came from the Old French term “gingerbras”, which itself was derived from “zingebar”, the Latin term for the spice. By the 15th century, gingerbread meant a type of cake made with molasses and ginger, but it was not yet widely used. Metropolis Engine 1 Has Arrived

The Metropolis Fire Department has announced that they have taken delivery of Metropolis Engine 1 – a 2022 Ferrara.  This engine will replace Engine 4 which has served as the Frontline Engine for the Metropolis Fire Department for over 20 years.

Metropolis Fire Chief Micah Tolbert advised that before the new engine goes completely into service they hope to have a blessing ceremony and keep with the tradition of firefighters pushing the rig into the station on the day it goes into service.

The Fire Department wishes to thank community, the Mayor and City Council for providing us with this engine to work for our citizens.

The first Firearm Deer Season is in the rearview mirror.  We hope that our hunters in the community had a safe Shotgun Weekend.  The next Firearm Deer Season will take place December 1, 2, 3 & 4, 2022.  Muzzleloader-Only Deer Season:  December 9, 10 & 11, 2022  – Hunters may also use a muzzleloader permit with a muzzleloading rifle during Second Firearm Season December 1 – 4, 2022

Hunters have the unique opportunity of trekking through areas that are off the beaten path.  By traveling those areas Hunters have the occasion to be on the lookout for signs of crimes.  This may include abandoned vehicles or weapons and fresh dug dirt or other signs of foul play.

If you see something that seems out of place while on your hunt:

• Tag the area.

• Don’t disturb the area.

• Walk away the same way you walked into it.

• Call the authorities.

• Stay near the area, if you can, until law enforcement arrives.

• If you cannot stay near the area, get the GPS coordinates and take photos that will help law enforcement locate the area.

More to see – hunter finds remains
