Today – Showers and thunderstorms likely, with a high near 72°. Breezy, with a south southeast wind 13 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.
Tonight – Scattered showers and thunderstorms, with a low around 45°. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph.
Wednesday – Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 63°. With gusts as high as 20 mph.
Wednesday Night – Clear, with a low around 40°.
Approximately 85 Acres Burned in Massac County on Monday Afternoon Amid Extended Dry Conditions
Massac County Emergency Management Director, Brian Horn tells WMOK that approximately 85 acres burned in Massac County on Monday afternoon. One fire that burned approximately 15 acres near the Massac-Johnson County lines and a second on Pell Road that burned approximately 70 acres.
The first fire occurred on North Highway 45 just south of Westview road. Firefighters and emergency response were on the scene from Massac County Fire, Massac County Sheriff’s Office, Joppa Fire, Vienna Fire, ISP and the US Forest Service. Crews were on the scene for several hours. Approximately 15 acres were burned.
The second fire began shortly after crews had responded to the first – this one in a field located at Powers Church and Pell Road in the Unionville community. Massac County Sheriff Chad Kaylor told WMOK on Tuesday morning’s Coffee Break that it was clear that they were going to need more resources as they had one fire working on the other side of the county, one in Unionville that was quickly spreading and conditions were not in their favor.
Responding to the fire in Unionville were Massac County Fire, Massac County Sheriff’s Office, Joppa Fire, Metropolis Fire, Pope County Fire, Concord Fire, West McCreacken Fire, US Forest Service, ISP and Massac County EMA. Sheriff Kaylor went into detail during our Coffee Break interview about the community response. He told WMOK that many individuals showed up with equipment ranging from garden hoes and rakes to skid steers and bucket diggers to cut lines and assist in stopping the fire. It was late Monday evening when crews cleared the scene. Approximately 70 acres were burned.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook Statement for our area along with a Special Weather Statement. As well as a Wind Advisory in effect from October 25, 9AM until October 25, 7PM.
Today and Tonight Strong and gusty south winds are expected through the day on Tuesday. A Wind Advisory is in effect from 9 am to 7 pm for western Kentucky and parts of southern Illinois, southeast Missouri and southwest Indiana.
Numerous showers and thunderstorms are forecast to move through the region Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening, a few of these storms may become severe. The main hazards would be isolated damaging wind gusts and a tornado or two is also possible.
Wednesday through Monday No hazardous weather is expected at this time.

The Kiwanis Club of Metropolis held the first 2022 Peanut Day fundraising project in September and will hold the second on Saturday, October 29th, from 8A – 2P. Kiwanians and Massac County High School Key Club members will set up roadblocks at two intersections in Metropolis to collect donations and distribute peanuts.
6:30-8:30P – Ghostly Wake hosted by Mrs. Elijah P. Curtis will take place at the Elijah P. Curtis House, located at 405 Market St. The event is suitable for all ages and costumes are welcome. Tickets are a donation of $7 donation to the Massac County Historical Society and are available at the door.
