The Massac County Fire Protection District has advised that a burn ban is now in effect for Massac County until further notice.


The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook statement for our area.Today and Tonight An elevated risk of wildfire spread is forecast this afternoon across the Missouri Bootheel, western Kentucky, far southwest Illinois, and southwest Indiana. Please heed all burn bans and use caution when handling fire triggers.

Wednesday through Sunday A chance of thunderstorms is forecast throughout the region Wednesday into Wednesday evening. An isolated strong to severe thunderstorm with damaging winds or large hail is possible. Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are forecast Thursday. Please heed all burn bans and use caution when handling fire triggers.


The next Metropolis City Clean Up Week for 2022 will be held the week of November 14-18. This will be the last Metropolis City Clean Up Week for the year.


The Metropolis Police Department will honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month by selling Pink Metropolis Police Department Patches to raise funds. The patches are $15.00 each. You can contact Chief Masse or stop by the police department to get a patch.  The Metropolis Police Department is located at 1020 Broadway Street in Metropolis.

We’ve begun at WMOK rolling out our listing of local Halloween and Trunk or Treat Events –

Massac County:

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2022 AT 6 PM – 9 PM – Massac County Mental Health’s Haunted Hayride – Massac County Youth Fairgrounds – 4476 Korte Rd, Metropolis.   Those attending may ride in the main wagon, drive their car or even bring their own wagon through the haunted hayride route!
All proceeds go to Massac County Mental Health community programs.
Massac County Mental Health is in need of volunteers to help with a Haunted Hayride and calls on our local 4H’ers and others to help out.  Volunteers are needed to dress up and walk around the path scaring people or to claim a space of their own to create a spooky scene. The staff at MCMH have suggestions if needed.  Please contact MCMH at (618) 926-2402 to express interest in partnering with them.

Friday, October 21 – 7P  Fall Back to Metropolis 2022 – Come out at 7pm and participate in the first annual zombie walk. Stay for shopping , a costume contest and other fun.
At 9pm Zaago’s Horror Extravaganza will be guiding everyone through an outdoor showing of the cult classic Night of the Living Dead.

2-4P – The Massac County HCE presents Craft Night  The craft sessions will be held in the Farm Bureau & Extension Office meeting rooms. Those who attend will have the choice to make any of the following crafts: Stamping Up Cards (instructor Mina Haverkamp), Material Wreaths (instructor Carol Kent), Painted Stepstones (instructor Judy Ferguson), and Lace Pumpkin (instructor Lisa Blair from MarLi’s). A small fee will be asked for each craft you make to cover the instructor’s expenses. Come have some fun and bring a friend! PLEASE sign up ahead to make sure they have enough for everyone.

6P- Metropolis American Legion Post 306 will be holding monthly meetings on the second Thursday of the month. The Metropolis American Legion Post 306 is located at 321 Market St.

6P Fall 2022 Women’s Personal Defense Course held at the Metropolis Community Center. This is a 5 week course for women/girls only. Participants will learn how and where to strike attackers, how to avoid potential threats, and ultimately test their new skills and go all out on the instructors. Course tickets are $80.

 6-10P – The Metropolis Public Library presents Capture The Flag-Glow Edition!! The Metropolis Public Library will be blocking off the street block surrounding the Metropolis Public Library for an EPIC game of Capture the Flag- GLOW STYLE! *Receive a team glow bracelet and work together to enter the other team’s marked territory and recapture your glowing flag! Get caught and spend time in jail. Meet  at 6pm @Washington Park Look for the bonfire *Losers roast marshmallows for winners *YOU MUST RSVP so that we have enough team bracelets. *AGES: 13 & UP
