Metropolis Woman Arrested in Saturday’s Metropolis Shooting

Metropolis, IL ~ Anita C. Prater, 59, Metropolis was arrested by the Paducah Police Department upon her release from the hospital following a Metropolis shooting on Saturday Night.

Massac County State’s Attorney Josh Stratemeyer, authorized charges of Aggravated Battery with a firearm, Aggravated Reckless discharge of a firearm and unlawful restraint.

Metropolis Police Detectives advised that the investigation revealed that victim stated that he had gone to the residence to purchase a play station at approximately 9:00 pm. He was held against his will and was able to get out of the residence around 1100 pm. As he was in his vehicle, Prater allegedly shot him using a shotgun. The victim from Wickliffe, KY sustained injuries to his upper arm as well as his face from the buckshot. He was initially taken to Massac Memorial Hospital by a motorist who happened to be driving in the area. He was then flown to a hospital in Nashville, TN.

A Massac County judge set the bond at one million dollars. Prater is being held in the McCracken County Jail pending extradition back to Massac County.

Metropolis Police were assisted by Massac County Sheriff’s Office, IL State Police, Paducah Police and the Massac County State’s Attorneys Office.

The preceding information pertains to an arrest made by the Metropolis Police Department. This arrest was made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
