(Portion of Proceeds to Benefit Local Food Pantry) – Southern 7 Health Department (S7HD) will hold its 7th “Tour de Seven” – Fall into Fitness 5K Run/Walk in Rosiclare on October 1 during the town’s annual Fluorspar Festival. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to a local food pantry in Hardin County.

Since 2015, the “Tour de Seven” has been held each year in one of the seven counties served by Southern 7. However, the event was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. Hardin County will be the final site of the 5K Run/Walk for the Department.

“Southern 7’s Healthy Lifestyles Committee, that plans and hosts this event, is all about promoting a healthy lifestyle, of course the “Tour de Seven” serves that purpose”, said Natalie Sawyer, S7HD Health Education Director. “We also want to be present in our communities as much as possible and have some fun.”

A portion of the proceeds from the 5K will be donated to Hardin County Food Pantry through Shawnee Development. “It’s Southern 7’s honor to support one of our local food pantries during the pandemic and current inflation,” said Sawyer. “This event has always been about creating healthy outcomes for those who participate and for those who live in the county where it’s held.”

Joining in the event again this year is Arrowleaf, a local non-profit community service agency, to provide participant support and be on hand with information about their services. Said Sawyer, “Arrowleaf has always been a wonderful partner to the health department and this helps all of us to reach our goals and have a bigger impact on the community.”
Many Hardin County businesses have donated items for the 5K and will be recognized as a sponsor of the event. Southern 7 thanks them for their support. Donations will be accepted through September 9.

The 5K course, which begins at City Park at the River in Rosiclare, is mostly paved, wheelchair and stroller accessible with varying inclines and declines throughout the route. Pets on a leash are welcome. Hydration/first aid stations will be available.

Early registration for the Tour de Seven ends September 15. Entry fee is $25 and includes a participant t-shirt. Late registration is $30 with no guarantee on t-shirt. Day of registration begins at 7:00 a.m. followed by the Race at 8:00 a.m.

For those wanting a shorter route, a one-mile “Fluorspar Mineral Mile” will start at 8:30 a.m. Enter by donating a non-perishable food item. T-shirts can be ordered for $10 with a “Fluorspar Mineral Mile” registration.
