Today -Sunny, with a high near 92°, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
Tonight – A 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 72°.
Thursday – Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm, with a high near 84°.

The Metropolis 66 remains closed this afternoon following activity this morning from the Illinois Department of Revenue and the Illinois State Police

Metropolis Director of Public Safety, Chief Harry Masse advised WMOK just before noon that the Illinois Department of Revenue and Illinois State Police were on the scene this morning at the Metropolis 66.

Just shortly before 2:00 p.m. this afternoon WMOK was able to speak with Metropolis 66 store manager Carmen Bedding.

Carmen confirmed the information and told WMOK that point of sale systems and records were seized this morning.

Carmen advised that rumors about town that guns were drawn when officials entered the store are absolutely false. She went on to say that officials we’re kind and accommodating during the event.

Carmen was advised that the items were to be taken for investigation and following review would be returned to the store at which time Metropolis 66 will reopen.

 


The Fort Massac Water District has advised that they have repaired the leak on Highway 145

The Fort Massac Water District has advised that they have repaired the leak on Highway 145.

They are issuing a precautionary Boil Order. This is strictly precautionary, there are no known issues with the water quality.  The Boil Order is expected to last until the lab results are analyzed, which could be approximately Friday morning. This is for drinking water only.

 

Customers affected are along Highway 145 between Powers Church and the old Veach’s Building, including all of Waldo Church Road, Deer Run Road, Adam’s Way, Wesley Drive, Country Acres Lane and Old Orchard Road.

Metropolis Man Arrested on Warrant for Driving While License Suspended

 

The Metropolis Police Department has advised that on July 25, 2022 while on patrol a Metropolis Officer observed 31 year old Dakota L Stevens of Metropolis, at the Super Sud’s Laundry on East 5th Street.  Stevens was wanted on a warrant for driving while license suspended.  Stevens was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Today Wednesday, August 3rd from 3P-4P the Metropolis Public Library will celebrate National Watermelon Day at Washington Park in Metropolis.

The Metropolis City Pool will close for the season after the end of this week

The hours for the Metropolis City Pool Today through Thursday will be Noon to 7P.

The pool will close at 5P on Friday and Saturday for private events and the Back to School Bash lead by the Metropolis Police Department will take place on Sunday, August 7 from 12-5P.


Thrive Dispensary Collecting Animal Supplies for Local Animal Shelter

Thrive has begun collecting animal supplies to donate to Project Hope Humane Society for the month of August. Below is a list of items they are accepting. All who donate will be entered in a drawing to win a Thrive Gift Basket! The winner will be drawn on August 31st. If you are unable to pick up your prize in 7 days, another winner will be chosen.

Covid-19 Transmissions Remain Elevated in the Southern Seven Region

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook Statement for our area, along with a Special Weather Statement.

Today and Tonight Thunderstorm chances increase again late this afternoon into tonight. This will include a marginal risk of severe storms along and west of a Wayne City, Illinois, to New Madrid, Missouri line. The primary severe storm hazard will be damaging winds.

Thursday through Tuesday Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are forecast Thursday and Friday. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms can be expected Saturday through Tuesday. Heavy rainfall and lightning will be the primary hazards. Heat indices may exceed 100 in the western half of the region over the weekend. Minor flooding will continue along the Little Wabash River at Carmi.

Potentially dangerous heat indices are expected again today across southwest Indiana, far southeast Illinois, and much of western Kentucky. Afternoon heat indices will reach 100 to 105 degrees this afternoon.

Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and stay inside or take breaks in air-conditioned rooms if you can. Be mindful to not leave young children or pets unattended in vehicles, and check up on relatives and neighbors when possible.

Student Registration day will be tomorrow, August 3rd. ALL returning students, as well as new enrollees can come in from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m. Packets are also available on the website.
Registration packets must be returned to the school by Monday, August 8th.  First Day of School is August 12, 2022
