When Does Daylight Saving Time Begin

Don’t forget to Spring Forward on Saturday Night

Daylight Saving Time Begins at

2am on Sunday, March 13

From the National Conference of State Legislatures:

“In the last four years, 18 states have enacted legislation or passed resolutions to provide for year-round daylight saving time, if Congress were to allow such a change, and in some cases, if surrounding states enact the same legislation. Because federal law does not currently allow full-time DST, Congress would have to act before states could adopt changes.”

Casimir Pulaski was a military leader and cavalryman from Poland who was exiled to Paris, France after trying to oust the Polish King, a ruler who was seen as a puppet of Russia.

While in Paris, Pulaski met Marquis de Lafayette and Benjamin Franklin and Franklin recruited him to come to America. Here he served informally during the Revolutionary War and thought in the Battles of Brandywine and Germantown.

George Washington then made him a brigadier general and the first commander of the American Cavalry.  The Continental Congress created the Pulaski Legion made up of colonists and volunteers from France, Germany, and Poland.

Pulaski died in 1779 after being mortally wounded at the Siege of Savannah. He came to be seen as a Revolutionary War hero in towns and counties were named in his memory.

In from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the US Forest has advised that due to warmer weather conditions, FS RD 345, Snake Road, has closed early and will remain closed through May 15th for the annual migration of snakes and amphibians. LaRue Pine Hills/Otter Pond Research Natural Area is one of the most unique areas in the world. As with many places in the Shawnee National Forest, the beauty we see today is rooted in geologic history. Larue Pine Hills/Otter Pond Research Natural area became our nation’s 250th research natural area in 1991.

Natural Research Areas are permanently protected to maintain biological diversity and to provide place for research and monitoring of natural communities. More than 1300 species of plants and animals make their homes in the LaRue Pine Hills/Otter Pond RNA and many are threatened, endangered, and sensitive species. This area is most famous for the biannual snake migration across the LaRue Road at the base of the bluffs, adjacent to the LaRue Swamp.

The road is closed to the vehicular traffic every spring and fall to protect thousands of reptiles and amphibians during their migration between their summer and winter habitats..
