Metropolis Residents are reminded to register their bicycle with the Metropolis PD to assist in recovery

/ WMOK

WMOK wants to remind everyone that if you haven’t done so, you can register you bicycle for FREE at the Metropolis Police Department.

Director of Public Safety Chief Harry Masse wants to remind folks that they should keep their bikes secure when not in use and if you have had a bike stolen you should check the Metropolis Police Department as bikes are often turned in to the police department when they are found about town unattended.

Chief Masse encourages residents to register their bicycles with the Metropolis Police Department through their Bicycle Registration Program which they put in place several years ago.

Masse also advises that this is the most definitive way to recover a stolen bike as the registration information includes the serial number of the bike as well as a description.

Masse told WMOK that through the bicycle registration program offered by the Metropolis City Police that bikes have been recovered from Gary, Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky.

To register your bicycle take the bicycle to the Metropolis Police Department at 1020  Broadway in Metropolis.
