/ WMOK

The National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky, has issued a hazardous weather outlook for our area. They advise of near freezing temperatures and patchy frost is possible tonight across portions of Southern Illinois.

The National Weather Service has issued an urgent weather message, early this morning, they advise that a freeze watch is in effect from late Wednesday night through Thursday morning.

They say sub freezing temperatures as low as 28° are likely across our region. Regarding impacts of this frost and freeze condition could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. It’s recommended that you take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

WMOK wants to remind you, when we have those low temperatures, leave your faucets dripping in the house to help prevent your inside pipes from freezing.
