Covid-19 Cases on the Rise in Southernmost Illinois – Another County Moves to Orange Warning Level

On Friday afternoon the Southern Seven Health Department released an update for the Southern Seven Region advising of another county in the region moving to an Orange Warning Level status regarding Covid-19 Risk Metrics.

Alexander County was added to the list of Southernmost Illinois counties currently in the Orange Warning Level.  The Southern Seven Health Department advises that the test positivity percentage for the county was 10.8% out of 111 tests and that ICU availability was 16.7%.

Johnson County is at an Orange Warning Level.  The Southern Seven Health Department advises that the test positivity percentage for Johnson County was 6.8% out of 499 tests. ICU availability was 16.7%.

Pulaski County is at an Orange Warming Level.  The Southern Seven Health Department advises that the test positivity percentage for the county was 7.8% out of 217 tests. ICU availability was 16.7%.

Union County is at an Orange Warning Level.  The Southern Seven Health Department advises that the test positivity percentage for the county was 5.8% out of 1417 tests. ICU availability was 16.7%.

The Southern Seven Health Department advises that the test positivity percentage for the county was 8.4% out of 287 tests. ICU availability was 16.7% as of Friday afternoon.  In looking at the regional metrics on the Illinois Department of Public Health website, Massac County’s test positivity rate was 12.1% for a 7-Day rolling average as of data through July 27th.

Massac County added 53 new cases of Covid-19 last week – those numbers for Monday through Friday of last week.   There were; eight new cases under the age of 10 reported last week in Massac County, 10 new cases in their teens, five new cases in twenties, seven new cases in their 30s, seven new cases in their forties, seven new cases in their 50s, eight new cases in their 60s, and one new case in their 70s.

The Southern Seven Health Department advises folks to please get vaccinated against COVID-19 especially with the rapid spread of the Delta variant impacting neighboring states. The COVID-19 vaccines are proving to be effective in preventing people from becoming severely ill or requiring hospitalization.

It’s also recommended to continue following the COVID-19 mitigation procedures we’re familiar with to help prevent the spread of COVID-19: wear a mask, wash your hands frequently, and keep your distance especially in crowded situations or in indoor environments.
