A Discussion of Metropolis City Pet Ordinances with Metropolis Animal Control Officer, John Roman

/ WMOK

When Metropolis Animal Control and Abatement officer, John Roman joined us recently for coffee break we talked about the overabundance of cats in Metropolis.

Roman advised that there are currently no ordinances for cats in the city of Metropolis. He went on to describe the current Metropolis Pound facility and it’s inability to house cats.

Roman said that their facility is not equipped for cats and additional infrastructure as well as extra manpower would be needed if it were going to be equipped for cats.

As far as dogs are concerned Metropolis does have several ordinances for the canines:

Dogs must have a rabies vaccination.

Dogs must be on a leash.

When out for a walk dog owners must pick up any waste that the dog expels while on the journey.

Roman also talked about nuisance barking. He said while it’s understandable that dogs are sometimes going to bark that continued barking and barking incessantly at neighbors in the next yard is considered a nuisance.
